Hopewell, NJ – The Titusville Academy, a state-approved private non-profit school for students with learning and behavioral difficulties, has a new Principal. Elford Rawls-Dill, Ph.D. joined The Titusville Academy staff last summer in preparation for the start of the 2014-2015 school year.
“We are fortunate to welcome Dr. Rawls-Dill to The Titusville Academy as our new Principal,” said Deborah Zerbib, Executive Director. “His career focus on curriculum development and effective mentorship are in line with our mission and the needs of our students.”
Prior to coming to The Titusville Academy, Dr. Rawls-Dill worked as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Asbury Park Public Schools, where he led district-wide curriculum, instruction, and assessment and staff development programs for grades K-12. He also managed operational budgets and coordinated activities for the district’s basic Instructional programs, Bilingual Education, Special Education and Gifted and Talented Programs.
In his earlier work as an Elementary Principal at Long Branch Public Schools, he served as instructional leader for more than 125 teachers and support staff in a school of 900 students. There, he conducted extensive analysis of data to measure student performance against HSPA benchmarks, and implemented professional development programs for staff members and individual learning plans based on student’s needs.
During his academic career, Dr. Rawls-Dill has authored and implemented a number of curriculum and school improvement programs, including a pioneering curriculum for a course on “Race/Gender/Ethnicity.” He designed and implemented a school improvement model that resulted in 85% of students meeting standards in all areas on the New Jersey Statewide Tests.
Rawls-Dill has presented his work at the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) national conference, and has authored and received several large educational grants enabling school districts to receive additional funding.
Rawls-Dill earned a B.S. in English Literature from Jersey City University, and his M.S. in Education Administration from Monmouth University. He recently completed his doctoral studies in Educational Leadership where his dissertation topic was “Mentorship for At-Risk African American Males.”
